# DeepSeek Rank Tracking Tools: What Can Actually Be Measured?

DeepSeek rank tracking cannot give you a numbered position, because DeepSeek answers questions instead of listing ten results. What you can measure is whether an answer names your brand, links your site, recommends you, and names competitors, under recorded conditions. Judge any DeepSeek rank tracking tool by how completely it captures that evidence.

## DeepSeek rank tracking: the short answer

1. **There is no rank.** A search results page has positions. A DeepSeek answer has sentences, and sometimes a list of sources. Anything sold as a DeepSeek rank is a mention rate, a citation count or an order inside one generated list, so ask which one.
2. **There are three DeepSeeks.** The app or web chat with Search on, the same chat with Search off, and the API, where we found no built-in web search. They answer differently, and only the first shows the web results a shopper would see.
3. **Compare tools on evidence, not scores.** Repeated prompts, the exact answer text, mention, citation and recommendation kept separate, source links, competitor co-mentions, history, exports, published prices, and a plain statement of how the tool collects DeepSeek answers.

## Why DeepSeek gives you an answer instead of a rank

A classic rank tracker asks Google a keyword and records the position of your page in a fixed list. That works because the list exists, is numbered, and is mostly the same for everyone who checks it on the same day.

DeepSeek is an answer engine: software that writes a reply to a question instead of listing pages. Ask it "best payroll software for a ten-person accounting firm" and you get a paragraph or a short list of names, perhaps with a few sources attached. Nothing in that reply is a position for your website. Run it again and the wording, the order of names and the sources can change.

That is why DeepSeek rank tracking means something narrower than the phrase suggests. The measurable things are the ones the answer displays:

- Whether your brand is named at all.
- Whether your website appears as a source link.
- Whether the answer recommends you, or only lists you.
- Which competitors appear in the same answer.
- How the answer describes you, and whether the facts are right.

Those are the five categories most honest trackers report. Four of them are the fields Prime AI Visibility defines on its [metrics and methodology page](https://primeaivisibility.com/metrics): Brand named, Website cited, Source links and Explicit recommendation. Framing is a note you write yourself. The wider argument for why positions cannot describe an answer engine is laid out in our comparison of [an AI visibility tool against an SEO rank tracker](https://primeaivisibility.com/articles/comparisons/ai-visibility-tool-vs-seo-rank-tracker). This page applies it to one engine.

## Which DeepSeek are you measuring?

Before you compare any DeepSeek rank tracking tool, settle which surface it reads. DeepSeek's home page offers two products: chat at chat.deepseek.com or in the app, and the API platform for developers. The chat has two switches, DeepThink and Search. Each combination is a different measurement.

| Surface | How people reach it | Web results | What a check tells you |
|---|---|---|---|
| App or web chat, Search on | chat.deepseek.com or the app, signed in | Yes, through third-party search APIs named in the privacy policy | Closest to what a buyer sees, with sources to audit |
| App or web chat, Search off | Same, with Search switched off | No | What the model already says about you, with no sources to check |
| DeepSeek API | Developer key; models deepseek-flash and deepseek-v4-pro | None built in that we could find; developers supply their own tools | Repeatable at scale, but not DeepSeek's Search |
| Open weights, self-hosted | A download | None unless the host adds some | Not a customer-facing surface |

The API row needs one more sentence, because it is the only route an automated DeepSeek rank tracking tool can take without automating the chat product. On 23 September 2026 we found no built-in web search in DeepSeek's API documentation: the chat completion reference has no search option, and the Responses API guide lists web_search, file_search and other built-in tools as ignored. Tool calls are supported, so a developer can attach a search service of their own and feed results to the model. An API-based check can therefore be useful, but any URLs in its answers came either from the vendor's own retrieval or from the model writing them without retrieval. Neither is DeepSeek's Search, and a report should say so.

Three details from DeepSeek's own documents shape everything else on this page.

**Search is described as a helper, not a guarantee.** DeepSeek's terms of use say that when the Search function is enabled "the accuracy of the Outputs may be improved to some extent," and that inaccuracy in AI-generated content "cannot be entirely avoided." A check with Search on and a check with Search off are two different experiments, so record which one you ran.

**The chat product is not meant to be automated.** The terms list, among prohibited network activities, "capturing, copying any content of the Services, including but not limited to using any robots, spiders, or other automatic setups." The clause is aimed at automated capture, not at a person keeping notes of their own conversations. A tool that promises thousands of automated DeepSeek chat answers a day is either using the API, which changes what is measured, or automating the chat product in a way the terms describe as prohibited. Ask which, in writing.

**No crawler is documented.** OpenAI, Anthropic and Perplexity each publish the names of the crawlers behind their answer products, which is why you can verify them in your server logs, as our guide to [how AI crawlers fetch and verify themselves](https://primeaivisibility.com/articles/geo/ai-crawlers-explained) explains. On 23 September 2026 we did not find equivalent documentation from DeepSeek. Any "DeepSeek crawler hits" number therefore rests on guessed user-agent strings, and we would not put it in a report.

## What a DeepSeek check can record

Whatever collection method you choose, the record per question should look the same. The vocabulary below is the one Prime AI Visibility publishes for its own five engines, and it transfers to DeepSeek without change.

| Field | What to write down | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Question | The exact wording, frozen | The next run must be comparable |
| Surface and mode | App or API; Search on or off; DeepThink on or off; model name if shown | The same question gives different answers across these |
| Date and account | Run date, signed-in account, language and market | Answers drift over time and by region |
| Full answer | The complete text, pasted or screenshotted | Summaries hide the framing you will later need |
| Brand named | Yes or no | The most basic presence signal |
| Website cited | Yes or no, plus the exact URL | A link is different from a name |
| Source links | Every source the answer shows, in order | Shows which pages the answer displayed as sources, yours or not |
| Explicit recommendation | Yes or no, with the sentence | A recommendation is stronger than a mention |
| Competitors named | Each rival brand in the answer | The co-mention set is your real comparison group |
| Framing and accuracy | Neutral, positive, negative; any wrong fact | Presence with a stale claim is a problem to fix |

Two definitions, once. A citation is a source link the answer displays. A co-mention is a competitor named in the same answer as you. Keep them in separate columns, because a tool that folds them into one score removes the detail you would act on.

A mention rate is simply answers that named you divided by answers you requested, for a stated question set, surface and month. Write the denominator next to the number. "Named in 6 of 20 Search-on answers in September" is a fact. "30% DeepSeek visibility" is a fact with its conditions removed.

## How we compared DeepSeek rank tracking methods

Method note, dated 23 September 2026: the comparison below rates ways of collecting DeepSeek evidence, not named products, because DeepSeek coverage differs by vendor, changes often, and can only be confirmed in a trial. Ratings are words, not invented numbers. Where a rating depends on the vendor, it says "verify" so you test it before paying. Prime AI Visibility publishes this page and does not support DeepSeek, which is disclosed again below.

The nine criteria, in the order a buyer should check them:

1. **Collection method disclosed.** App or API, Search on or off, stated plainly.
2. **Prompt repetition.** The same frozen question set, run on a schedule, with repeat runs to expose variance.
3. **Exact answer capture.** The full answer text is stored, not a summary or a score.
4. **Mention, citation and recommendation kept separate.**
5. **Source evidence.** Every displayed source link, in order, with the URL.
6. **Competitor co-mentions.** Rival brands recorded per answer.
7. **History.** Past answers remain readable months later.
8. **Exportability.** Rows and answers leave the tool as CSV or PDF without a penalty.
9. **Pricing transparency.** The price of a DeepSeek run is published, not quoted on a call.

| Criterion | Manual app sessions | Scripted API checks | Platforms listing DeepSeek |
|---|---|---|---|
| Collection method disclosed | strong | strong | verify |
| Prompt repetition | partial | strong | verify |
| Exact answer capture | strong | strong | verify |
| Mention, citation, recommendation separate | strong | partial | verify |
| Source evidence | strong | none | verify |
| Competitor co-mentions | strong | strong | verify |
| History | partial | strong | verify |
| Exportability | strong | strong | verify |
| Pricing transparency | strong | strong | verify |

Notes on the ratings. Manual sessions score strong on disclosure because you know exactly what you did, and partial on repetition and history because both depend on your time and discipline. Scripted API checks are strong on repetition and storage, but their source evidence is rated none because the sources, if any, come from the vendor's own retrieval rather than DeepSeek's Search, which also limits citation tracking to partial.

Read the "verify" column honestly. It does not mean platforms are weak. It means that on 23 September 2026 no public vendor page we read stated which DeepSeek surface it reads, whether Search was on, or how the answers were collected, and those three facts decide whether the data is worth anything. A trial with your own ten questions answers them in an afternoon.

Classic SEO rank trackers are left out of the table on purpose, and that is not a criticism of those tools. They would rate none on every evidence criterion above, because DeepSeek has no results page to scrape, while still rating strong on exports and pricing for the search rankings they were built to measure. They measure a different surface, and they do it well. If your question is "where does my page sit in Google for this keyword," use one. If your question is "does DeepSeek name me when a buyer asks," they cannot answer it.

For a fuller checklist that applies to every engine, our guide on [what to test before choosing an AI visibility tool](https://primeaivisibility.com/articles/ai-visibility/how-to-choose-an-ai-visibility-tool) covers engine coverage, metric definitions, prompt ownership and trial design.

## What public vendor pages said about DeepSeek on 23 September 2026

Buyers searching for the best DeepSeek rank tracking tool will meet a handful of pages. Here is what each publicly stated on the date we read it. This is a reading of public pages, not a trial, not a ranking and not an endorsement.

- **aeochecker.ai** names DeepSeek among the ten AI engines listed on its home page (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, DeepSeek, Grok, Perplexity, Mistral, Qwen, Kimi and Google AI Mode) and displays an AEO Score, an AI Mention Rate and Brand Sentiment for tracked prompts. The page does not say how DeepSeek answers are collected.
- **Cairrot** has a page titled "DeepSeek Rank Tracker" that lists AI Readiness, Prompt Tracking and DeepSeek Citation Tracking, and describes tracking specific prompts to see whether a brand is mentioned in the reply, over time, against competitors. The page does not state the surface or collection method.
- **StarRise** names DeepSeek among the engines in its home page headline (Perplexity, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Grok and DeepSeek) and offers a free report. DeepSeek collection details are not on the page.
- **xSeek** publishes an article describing itself as the best DeepSeek rank tracking tool and lists "DeepSeek Crawler Tracking" as a feature. As noted above, we found no DeepSeek crawler documentation to check such a metric against.
- **Prime AI Visibility**, the publisher of this page, lists ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and a Google AI Overview-style preview as its supported tools. DeepSeek is not among them.

A page that promises a DeepSeek rank, DeepSeek traffic growth or crawler hit counts is promising something DeepSeek does not publish. Treat it as a reason to ask questions, not a reason to buy.

## A manual DeepSeek check you can run this week

If you need a DeepSeek website rank tracking baseline before any budget exists, run it by hand. The method mirrors the spreadsheet approach in our guide to [tracking AI visibility manually versus with a tool](https://primeaivisibility.com/articles/ai-visibility/tracking-ai-visibility-manually-vs-with-a-tool), adapted to DeepSeek's switches.

1. **Create a DeepSeek account.** The web chat asks you to sign up or log in before you can ask anything.
2. **Freeze ten to twenty buyer questions.** Full questions a prospect would ask, not keywords. Group them by stage: category, comparison, and "is X any good."
3. **Run each question twice.** Once with Search off, once with Search on. Start a new chat for every question so earlier turns do not colour the answer.
4. **Record every field in the table above.** Paste the complete answer. Copy every source link with Search on, in order.
5. **Mark competitors and recommendations.** Highlight each rival named and each sentence that recommends anyone.
6. **Repeat monthly, same account, same wording.** Keep old rows. The value is in the comparison between months, not in any single month.
7. **Do not automate the chat.** DeepSeek's terms list robots, spiders and other automatic setups against the Services as prohibited. Keeping your own notes of your own conversations is ordinary record keeping; building a scraper is not. If you outgrow manual work, the documented developer route is the API, which changes what you are measuring because we found no built-in Search in it.

A worked example, with a fictional company. Northbay Dental Supply sells sterilisation equipment to small clinics. Its baseline of twelve questions might look like this:

| Question theme | Search off | Search on | Competitors named, Search on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best autoclave for a small dental clinic | Not named | Named, site not cited | Two distributors |
| Northbay Dental Supply reviews | Named, old price quoted | Named, home page cited | None |
| Dental sterilisation compliance checklist | Not named | Not named | None; trade body cited |

Three rows already say more than a score would. In the unbranded category question, the brand appears only when Search is on. Its own site is cited only when the question contains its name. The compliance question is answered with a trade association as the source, so no vendor owns it. The outdated pricing statement in the Search-off answer is a fact to check against the current page and re-test next month, without assuming any single page caused it. None of this required a DeepSeek rank, and all of it can be repeated.

The cost of this method is time. Twenty questions, two modes each, takes most of a morning if you paste full answers. That is the honest price of a free DeepSeek check, and it is the number to compare against any platform quote.

## Questions to ask any DeepSeek rank tracking vendor

Send these before a demo. Short answers are fine; missing answers are the finding.

1. Which DeepSeek surface do you read: the app, the web chat or the API?
2. Is Search on or off when you collect, and can I choose?
3. How do you collect answers, given DeepSeek's terms on automated capture of the chat product?
4. Which DeepSeek model version answered, and do you store it per run?
5. Do you keep the full answer text, or only a classification?
6. Are source links stored with their URLs, in the order displayed?
7. Are Brand named, Website cited and Explicit recommendation separate fields?
8. Which competitors were named, per answer, and can I add my own list?
9. How many times is each question run per period, and can I see every run?
10. How long is history kept, and what does an export cost?
11. What exactly do you call "rank" for DeepSeek, and how is it calculated?
12. Is DeepSeek in the published price, or an add-on?

If a vendor cannot answer the first three, the rest do not matter yet.

## Where Prime AI Visibility fits, and where it does not

Disclosure: Prime AI Visibility publishes this page and sells AI visibility measurement. On 23 September 2026 its supported tools are ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and a Google AI Overview-style preview. It does not run questions through DeepSeek, and nothing on this page should be read as implying otherwise. If that changes, this page will be updated with the date.

What Prime does do is the part of the method above that is painful by hand: it runs a saved question set on a monthly schedule, stores every answer, and reports Brand named, Website cited, Source links and Explicit recommendation as separate fields, and reports Comparable change only for a sufficiently aligned question set, tools, persona, market and measurement method. The free Flash plan covers up to five questions in ChatGPT with one completed check a month and no card. Starter, at $69 a month, adds Perplexity and the Google AI Overview-style preview; Growth, at $179 a month, adds Claude and Gemini. Saved PDF and CSV exports cost no credits.

For a team that needs DeepSeek too, the practical setup is one question set in two places: the five supported engines in Prime, and the same questions run by hand in DeepSeek with the record above. The columns match, so the two records read side by side. For how Prime's approach differs from other trackers on evidence, history and pricing, see the [comparison of Prime AI Visibility with other AI search trackers](https://primeaivisibility.com/compare/ai-search-trackers).

## Frequently asked questions

**Can you track rankings in DeepSeek?**

Not as a numbered position, because DeepSeek writes an answer rather than listing pages in a fixed order. You can track whether an answer names your brand, cites your website, recommends you, and which competitors it names, for a frozen set of questions under recorded conditions. Any "DeepSeek rank" a vendor shows is derived from those observations, so ask how it is calculated.

**What is the best DeepSeek rank tracking tool?**

There is no reproducible way to name one, because DeepSeek coverage varies by vendor and can only be confirmed in a trial. Compare candidates on nine observable criteria: disclosed collection method, prompt repetition, exact answer capture, separate mention, citation and recommendation fields, source evidence, competitor co-mentions, history, exportability and published pricing. Run your own ten questions in a trial before paying.

**Does DeepSeek search the web?**

The DeepSeek app and web chat have a Search switch. DeepSeek's privacy policy says it integrates third-party APIs to provide search services, and its terms of use say enabling Search "may" improve accuracy "to some extent." We found no built-in web search in the DeepSeek API documentation on 23 September 2026: the chat completion reference has no search option, and the Responses API guide lists web_search among the built-in tools it ignores.

**Does DeepSeek have a crawler I can see in my logs?**

On 23 September 2026 we did not find DeepSeek documentation naming a crawler, unlike OpenAI, Anthropic and Perplexity, which publish theirs. Strings in server logs that look like a DeepSeek bot cannot be verified against an official list, so treat any DeepSeek crawler metric as unverified.

**Is DeepSeek SEO rank tracking software different from an AI visibility tool?**

Usually it is the same category with a different label. Software that genuinely records DeepSeek answers, source links and competitor mentions is an AI visibility tool applied to one engine. A classic SEO rank tracker measures positions in search results pages and cannot measure DeepSeek at all, because DeepSeek has no results page.

**Does Prime AI Visibility track DeepSeek?**

No. On 23 September 2026 Prime AI Visibility supports ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and a Google AI Overview-style preview. This page will be updated with a date if that changes. Teams that need DeepSeek evidence can run the manual method above with the same question set they use in Prime, so the two records share columns.

**How often should I repeat a DeepSeek check?**

Monthly is a workable cadence for a manual record, using the same account, wording and Search settings each time. Add an extra run after a DeepSeek model release, since answers can change with the model. Keep every past row, because the comparison between months is the result.
