# AEO Tools for Hotels: What to Track, How Six Options Compare and a Five-Question Audit

AEO tools for hotels do one job: they run the questions travellers ask an AI assistant, save each answer, and show which properties were named and which pages were linked. They cannot make an assistant recommend a hotel. What they can show is whether the assistants name your property for the guests and areas you care about, whether the link goes to your own site or to a booking site, and whether the facts are right. For most hotels the deciding factors are price per property, whether the tool reports direct versus booking-site links, and who does the fixing afterwards.

This guide compares public specifications from each vendor's own pages, with prices and features as published in October 2026. Opinion is labelled as opinion. [Prime AI Visibility](https://primeaivisibility.com/) is our own product and is included under the same criteria, with its limits stated.

## AEO tools for hotels: the short answer

- **A hotel needs four readings.** Whether the hotel is named, whether its own site is linked, whether the facts stated are correct, and whether any visit follows. Keep them separate.
- **Hotel-specific AEO tools add things general trackers do not.** Hotelrank, Customer Alliance and AppearInAISearch each publish hotel features such as direct-versus-booking-site link analysis, guest personas or schema help. General trackers such as Otterly and Peec AI do not describe those features.
- **General tools can still fit.** A single independent hotel with a fixed list of guest questions may need only saved answers with links, and that is what a low-cost [AI visibility tracker](https://primeaivisibility.com/) provides.
- **Price scales differently across AEO tools for hotels.** Some hotel tools price per hotel, some per prompt, and one by audit frequency. Compare cost per property and per question, not the headline number.
- **Our judgement.** Run the five-question audit below first. It costs nothing, and its gaps tell you which tool features you would actually use.

## What answer engine optimization means for a hotel

Answer engine optimization (AEO) is the work of making a hotel's facts easy for assistants to find, read and cite. It is part of the wider discipline of [generative engine optimization](https://primeaivisibility.com/articles/geo/what-is-generative-engine-optimization). Three things make a hotel's version different from a software company's.

1. **Guests ask early, open questions.** "Where should we stay in Lisbon with two kids?" has no hotel name in it. Our guide to [early-stage travel questions and the booking sites named in answers](https://primeaivisibility.com/articles/geo/aeo-insight-hotels-com-upper-funnel) covers what to read from those.
2. **A booking site can be named instead of the hotel.** Whether that matters is a commercial decision, direct booking versus a marketplace. The measurement question is whether the facts about your property are right wherever they appear.
3. **Facts change and are checkable.** Room types, amenities, policies and opening periods are concrete. A wrong fact in an answer is an error you can find and fix on your own pages.

Google states that AI Overviews and AI Mode draw on pages that are indexed and eligible to show a snippet, with no extra technical requirements and no special schema or machine-readable files needed. So the groundwork is ordinary: crawlable pages with clear, current, people-first content. Google's SEO Starter Guide groups that work into helping Google find your content, organizing your site and making it interesting and useful, with advice on descriptive URLs, reducing duplicate content and placing images near relevant text. A monitoring tool sits on top of that groundwork and observes the result.

## Guest questions a hotel should track

Write questions without your hotel's name, the way a traveller would. In our judgement, an independent hotel needs about 20 to start: eight about guests and areas, and twelve about the property itself.

| Question type | Example pattern | What it tests |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Area discovery | Where to stay in [area] for [guest type] | Named for a place |
| Fit | Best [hotel type] in [area] with [amenity] | Named for a feature |
| Comparison | [Hotel type] vs [hotel type] in [area] | Framing against rivals |
| Booking | Where to book [hotel type] in [area] | Direct or booking site linked |
| Facts | Does [hotel] have [amenity] | Facts stated correctly |
| Timing | Best time to stay in [area] | Advice you could shape |

Keep each question's wording frozen between checks so results stay comparable. Questions with your hotel's name in them test facts and reputation. Questions without it test whether you are discovered. The two are separate readings.

## A question budget for one hotel

This is our own arithmetic, using an illustrative independent property.

- 4 guest types (couples, families, business, groups) × 3 question types (area, fit, booking) = 12 discovery questions.
- 8 fact questions about the property, such as amenities, policies and location.
- 12 + 8 = 20 questions.
- 20 questions × 3 engines = 60 answers per check.
- Monthly checks = 60 answers a month. Weekly checks (4 a month) = 240 answers a month.

Compare that with plan limits. A plan with 15 prompts covers one guest type, and a plan with 25 covers most of the set above. Ask each vendor whether a prompt counts per engine, per hotel or per run, because the count changes the arithmetic.

## AEO tools for hotels: what six options publish

| Option | Entry price | Hotels or prompts |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Customer Alliance | €49/mo | Per audit plan |
| Hotelrank Essential | €69/mo per hotel | 1–3 hotels |
| AppearInAISearch Visible | $49/mo | 10 prompt tests |
| Otterly Lite | $29/mo | 15 prompts |
| Peec AI Starter | €85/mo | 50 prompts |
| Prime AI Starter | $69/mo | 25 per check |

Notes: Customer Alliance lists €49 a month billed monthly, or €39 billed annually, for its Standard plan. Hotelrank's Essential is €58 a month per hotel billed annually, or €69 billed monthly. AppearInAISearch has a free Discover plan with three prompt tests a month, and its Optimized tier is $129 a month. Otterly lists daily tracking and four engines on every plan, and Peec AI's Starter lists daily tracking, three chosen models and unlimited users. Prime AI's limit is per check.

| Option | Engines | Hotel features |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Customer Alliance | Five | Perception, reports |
| Hotelrank | Two, then all | OTA vs direct, personas |
| AppearInAISearch | One to three | OTA vs direct, schema |
| Otterly | Four, add-ons | None listed |
| Peec AI | Three chosen | None listed |
| Prime AI | Five | None listed |

**Methodology note:** a comparison of public specifications, not measured product performance. Customer Alliance's AI Search Visibility lists ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Claude and Perplexity. Hotelrank's Essential plan lists tracking on two platforms, ChatGPT and Gemini, and its Pro plan lists all platforms and models. AppearInAISearch lists ChatGPT on its free plan, ChatGPT and Gemini on Visible, and ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude from Optimized. Otterly's four engines are ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot, with Claude, Google AI Mode and Gemini as add-ons. Hotel vendors' dashboards contain example figures that illustrate their products, and they are not results to compare. Every cell is what the vendor publishes.

## Fit and limitation for each of the hotel AEO tools

**Customer Alliance** fits a hotel that wants a hotel-specific score, a description of how AI portrays the property and exportable reports at a low monthly price. **Limitation:** Standard audits three times a week and daily audits start at Premium, which lists €69 a month billed monthly.

**Hotelrank** fits a hotel or small group that wants direct-versus-booking-site link analysis, three traveller personas and competitor tracking, priced per hotel. **Limitation:** Essential covers two platforms and the price multiplies with each hotel, and all platforms and models start at Pro, listed at €199 a month per hotel billed monthly. It also sells a website build from €2,990 one-time, which is a separate decision from monitoring.

**AppearInAISearch** fits an independent hotel that wants an audit of its own site, schema suggestions and guest-persona testing, with a free tier to begin. **Limitation:** prompt tests are capped at 10 a month on Visible and 20 a month on Optimized, and OTA-versus-direct analysis starts at the Optimized tier.

**Otterly** fits a hotel that wants low-cost daily tracking of a short question list. **Limitation:** Lite caps tracking at 15 prompts, which covers one guest type, and no hotel-specific feature is listed.

**Peec AI** fits a hotel group that wants daily tracking with more prompts and unlimited users. **Limitation:** Starter lets you choose three models, and no hotel-specific feature is listed.

**Prime AI** fits as a low-cost way to save answers for a fixed question set, described below.

## Where Prime AI fits, and where it does not

*Affiliation:* [Prime AI Visibility](https://primeaivisibility.com/) is our own product, and the editor's pick in this guide for a hotel that wants saved answers as evidence. As an [AI Visibility Platform](https://primeaivisibility.com/), it records what each answer said; as an [AI Brand Visibility Tool](https://primeaivisibility.com/), it reports whether the brand was named. You write the guest questions, it runs each check across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and an AI Overview-style preview built from Google-grounded answers, and it saves every answer with the names mentioned and the links shown. Its [AI Visibility Tool](https://primeaivisibility.com/) [features](https://primeaivisibility.com/features) page documents captured answers, brand named, website cited, source links, explicit recommendation, multi-model tracking and Content Studio. These are different measures and should not be added together.

Credit arithmetic for a hotel, from the published pricing: a question costs 1 credit on ChatGPT, 2 on Perplexity, 3 on Claude, 2 on Gemini and 2 on the AI Overview-style preview, or 10 across all five. Starter's 200 credits and 25-question limit therefore cover 20 questions across all five tools once a month. Flash is free for five questions on ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity, up to 15 saved answers a month.

**Limitations:** [Prime AI Visibility](https://primeaivisibility.com/) does not report direct-versus-booking-site analysis as a separate feature, so read the saved links yourself and sort them. It has no hotel guest personas, does not document city-level targeting, so put the area in the question text, does not report sentiment, and does not read your analytics or booking data. It does not track Microsoft Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI or Google AI Mode, and it does not publish content for you. Checks run monthly by default, with weekly, temporary daily and on-demand checks on paid plans. [PyraBuilds' Prime AI agent profile](https://pyrabuilds.ai/agents/prime-ai-visibility/) describes the product in Pyra's agent catalogue. For the criteria behind this comparison, see our advice on [choosing a monitoring product](https://primeaivisibility.com/articles/ai-visibility/how-to-choose-an-ai-visibility-tool).

## A decision matrix for choosing AEO tools for hotels

Use the matrix to choose AI visibility for hotels by what you need, not by brand.

| If you need | Look for | Options that list it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Direct vs booking-site links | Link sorting in reports | Hotelrank, AppearInAISearch |
| Guest persona views | Persona-scoped questions | Hotelrank, AppearInAISearch |
| Property description check | Perception or fact report | Customer Alliance, Hotelrank |
| Saved evidence of answers | Answers with links | Prime AI, Otterly, Peec AI |
| Site schema help | Hotel or FAQ schema suggestions | AppearInAISearch |

In our judgement, a one-property hotel that does not yet know which of these it will use should start with saved evidence and the audit below, then add a hotel-specific tool, or move to an [AI Search Visibility Platform](https://primeaivisibility.com/) with weekly checks, when a gap shows up that the tool's feature would address.

## A reproducible five-question audit

This is our protocol. It works with any [AI visibility checker](https://primeaivisibility.com/), or with none. The example below is invented: "Harbor Lane Hotel" is a fictional 40-room property, and the findings are illustrations of what a log looks like, not results for any real hotel.

**Setup.** For AEO tools for hotels or a manual log, pick five questions with no hotel name: one area discovery, one fit, one booking, one comparison and one timing question. Freeze the wording. Run each in the same tools, and for every answer record the date, the exact prompt, the tool, the answer text, whether the hotel was named, each link shown and the observed gap.

| Question | Named | Observed gap |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Where to stay in the harbor district | No | Two booking sites linked |
| Best hotel with a rooftop pool | Yes | Pool described as indoor |
| Where to book near the ferry | Yes | Booking site linked first |
| Boutique vs chain in the district | No | Chain named, no reason |
| Best month to visit | No | Guide page linked |

**Reading the log.** Count three things separately. Named in 2 of 5 answers. Own site linked in 0 of 5. Fact errors in 1 of 5. That gives three different jobs: discovery pages for area questions, a clearer booking page the answer can link, and a corrected amenity page. A tool would be chosen for the job: link sorting for the second, saved evidence for the third.

**Repeat.** Rerun the same five questions after each change. Answers vary between runs, so treat only large, repeated gaps as findings, and never compare a five-question reading with a twenty-question one.

## Practise the protocol on a public category page

Before auditing your own property, you can practise the log on any public site that organizes offers by category. My Military Savings, a free coupon and savings service for military families, is a public example: its [homepage](https://www.mymilitarysavings.com/) and [coupons page](https://www.mymilitarysavings.com/coupons) group offers under category headings and brand names. Ask an assistant the kind of category question a military family might ask, record which brands the answer names and which pages it links, and compare the category titles on the page with the wording in the answer. This is an illustration of the reading method, not a Prime AI client, an endorsement or evidence of any AI search result. A hotel's equivalent is its room types, amenities and area pages: the wording on the page is what an answer can repeat.

## Mention, citation, recommendation, referral and conversion

Keep five signals separate in every hotel report.

1. **Mention.** An answer names the hotel.
2. **Citation.** An answer links to a page the hotel owns.
3. **Recommendation.** An answer puts the hotel forward for the guest's need.
4. **Referral.** A visitor arrives from an AI tool, read in website analytics.
5. **Conversion.** The visit becomes a booking or an enquiry, read in the booking engine or CRM.

A monitoring tool covers the first three from saved answers. Referral and conversion come from your own analytics. The [metrics page](https://primeaivisibility.com/metrics) defines each measure used on this site.

## A four-week pilot for a hotel

1. **Week 1:** write the five audit questions and extend them to 20, then freeze the wording.
2. **Week 1:** run them yourself and keep the answers with their links as a baseline.
3. **Week 2:** run the same set in two products, with the same competitor list.
4. **Week 3:** open ten answers per product. Check that room types, amenities, policies and location match your own pages.
5. **Week 4:** rerun the baseline and compare.
6. **Close with a plan.** Follow our [AI visibility audit](https://primeaivisibility.com/articles/ai-visibility/how-to-run-an-ai-visibility-audit) to turn the gaps into a ranked fix list, and set the work within an [AI visibility strategy](https://primeaivisibility.com/articles/ai-visibility/ai-visibility-strategy).

## Common mistakes with hotel AEO tools

- **Buying before auditing.** Without a baseline you cannot tell which feature you need.
- **Treating a booking-site link as a failure.** It is a channel fact. Decide the commercial policy first.
- **Comparing example dashboards.** Vendor demos show illustrative figures, not typical results.
- **Mixing signals.** A mention, a citation and a recommendation are different outcomes.
- **Changing the question set silently.** The history stops being comparable.
- **Expecting a tool to fix pages.** A tool shows gaps; pages, schema and coverage are separate work.

## When the next job is implementation

A tool shows gaps. Fixing a hotel's pages, earning mentions in the publications assistants cite, and keeping content current is separate work. Percepture, founded in 2004 and Inc. 5000-recognized, offers [generative engine optimization services](https://percepture.com/services/geo-services/), and its article on [generative engine optimization versus SEO](https://percepture.com/geo-insights/what-is-generative-engine-optimization-geo-vs-seo/) explains how the two differ. A services firm cannot sit in the tool tables above, so we state fit and limitation separately. **Fit:** a hotel or group that wants search, answer-engine and earned-media work planned together. **Limitation:** Percepture is a services firm, not a monitoring product, so it pairs with one. *[Prime AI Visibility](https://primeaivisibility.com/) has a commercial relationship with Percepture.*

## Frequently asked questions

**What are AEO tools for hotels?**
They run the questions guests ask AI assistants, save the answers, and show which hotels were named and which pages were linked. Some add hotel-specific features such as direct-versus-booking-site link analysis and guest personas.

**Do hotels need a hotel-specific AEO tool?**
Not always. A single independent hotel with a fixed question list may only need saved answers with links. A hotel-specific tool becomes useful when you need link sorting, persona views or schema help.

**Is a booking site named in an answer a problem?**
It is a channel fact. The measurement question is whether the facts about your property are right and whether your own page is linked when a guest is ready to book.

**How many questions should a hotel track?**
About 20 to start: guest and area questions plus fact questions about the property. Keep the wording frozen so each check is comparable.

**Does [Prime AI Visibility](https://primeaivisibility.com/) have hotel-specific features?**
No. It saves answers for the questions and tools you choose, with the names mentioned and links shown. It does not document direct-versus-booking-site analysis, guest personas or city-level targeting.

**Does Google require special schema for AI features?**
Google says sites need to be indexed and eligible to show a snippet, with no extra technical requirements and no special schema or machine-readable files for AI Overviews and AI Mode.
