Rankscale vs Ahrefs Brand Radar vs Semrush AI Toolkit: Plans, Engines and Fit in 2026

Rankscale vs Ahrefs Brand Radar vs Semrush AI toolkit is a choice between a dedicated tracker and two add-ons to SEO suites. Rankscale sells credits from $99 a month with a 7-day trial. Ahrefs adds Brand Radar prompts to paid plans from $129. Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit starts at $99 a month for 25 tracked prompts, with no free trial.
This comparison uses each vendor's public pages as they read on October 24, 2026. It is not a hands-on test, and no product was run. Prime AI Visibility publishes this site, is evaluated on the same criteria in its own section and is disclosed as affiliated.
Rankscale vs Ahrefs Brand Radar vs Semrush AI toolkit: the short answer
- Rankscale suits teams that want the widest engine list in a standalone product. Its Pro plan lists ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, AI Overviews, Gemini, DeepSeek, Mistral, Claude and Copilot, sold by credit.
- Ahrefs Brand Radar suits teams already paying for Ahrefs. Custom prompts are included in every paid plan from Lite, in small amounts, and larger volumes cost extra.
- Semrush's toolkit suits teams already on Semrush who want a fixed, small prompt set. The base plan tracks 25 prompts and its pages list four engine groups.
- The three count work in different units. Rankscale counts credits and answers, Ahrefs counts checks, and Semrush counts prompts. Compare each in its own unit, never as a single price per answer.
- None of these pages replaces a baseline. A saved set of answers to your own questions shows what each product should reproduce.
How was this compared?
Every figure comes from the vendor's own pages: Rankscale's pricing page, Ahrefs' Brand Radar and pricing pages, and Semrush's pricing page and knowledge base article for the AI Visibility Toolkit. A cell reads Not verified where those pages did not state a fact. Prices are monthly list prices in US dollars as shown on the pages. Descriptions such as "the largest database" are the vendors' own claims. Google's SEO Starter Guide frames the baseline for all three: its sections on helping Google find your content and checking that Google can see your page the way a user does come before any report about AI answers.
What does each product cost, and what does the price include?
| Product and plan | Monthly price | What the page lists |
|---|---|---|
| Rankscale Pro | $99 | 1,200 credits, up to 4,800 answers, 10 brand dashboards |
| Rankscale Pro+ | $229 | 3,000 credits, up to 12,000 answers, REST API |
| Rankscale Growth | $385 | 5,500 credits, up to 22,000 answers, white-label options |
| Rankscale Enterprise | $780 | 12,000 credits, up to 48,000 answers |
| Ahrefs Lite | $129 | 150 checks, 5 AI prompts |
| Ahrefs Standard | $249 | 300 checks, 10 AI prompts |
| Ahrefs Advanced | $449 | 600 checks, 20 AI prompts |
| Ahrefs Enterprise | $1,499 | From 2,500 checks, from 83 prompts |
| Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit | $99 | 25 tracked prompts, 1 domain for Brand Performance |
Rankscale's page says Pro comes with a 7-day free trial and a 15% saving on yearly billing, and lists REST API access from Pro+. Ahrefs' paid plans are full SEO suites, so the prompts above come with Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer and the rest, billed at a higher base price. Its Brand Radar page also lists custom prompts as an add-on that starts at $50 a month and an AI Visibility Index from $199 a month.
Semrush's pricing page shows $99 a month per domain billed annually, while its knowledge base article states $99 a month and says the toolkit has no free trial. Because the two pages phrase billing differently, confirm the terms at checkout. Extra prompts cost $60 a month for each additional 50, and each extra domain for Brand Performance costs $99 a month.
Which engines does each one list?
| Product | Engines listed | Where it is listed |
|---|---|---|
| Rankscale | ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Mode, AI Overviews, Gemini, DeepSeek, Mistral, Claude, Copilot | Pricing page, all plans |
| Ahrefs Brand Radar | AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot, Gemini; Claude on the larger index plan | Brand Radar page |
| Semrush toolkit | ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini, Perplexity | Pricing page |
Rankscale's page also announces support for another engine, Meta Muse Spark, on a banner. Ahrefs' page notes that Claude consumes 8 checks per update, which makes it the costliest engine to include. Semrush's knowledge base names Google's AI Mode and ChatGPT for prompt tracking and describes the Brand Performance reports as running common queries through models such as ChatGPT and AI Mode.
How does each count what you use?
| Product | Unit | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Rankscale | Credits | Each engine query typically uses 0.25 credits |
| Ahrefs | Checks | One prompt on one platform, daily, is about 30 checks a month |
| Semrush | Prompts | Plan limit of 25; platforms per prompt Not verified |
Ahrefs states the rule directly: each prompt is checked daily on every selected platform, so 5 prompts on 1 platform equal 150 checks a month. Rankscale's credit rule is on its pricing page and credit calculator. Semrush's limit is a prompt count, and the pages read do not say how many engines each tracked prompt covers.
A worked example shows the difference. This is arithmetic from the published rules, with an invented question set, not a measured result. Suppose you track 20 buyer questions across 4 engines daily for a 30-day month.
| Product | Calculation | Result against the plan |
|---|---|---|
| Rankscale | 20 × 4 × 30 = 2,400 answers; at 0.25 credits, about 600 credits | Fits Pro's 1,200 credits |
| Ahrefs | 20 × 4 = 80 checks a day, about 2,400 a month | Above Advanced's 600; near the Enterprise 2,500 minimum |
| Semrush | 20 prompts | Fits the 25-prompt limit; engine coverage per prompt Not verified |
Read each row in its own unit. The rows do not give a cost per answer, because each vendor defines a prompt, a check and an answer differently.
What does each report?
Rankscale. The page lists brand dashboards, page audits of any URL (50 on Pro), unlimited search terms where execution uses credits, and Looker Studio sharing on Pro.
Ahrefs Brand Radar. The page describes custom prompts with AI-generated prompt suggestions, fanout queries, tags and a modeled AI Visibility Index across 496 million prompts. It also lists free Web Analytics for AI-referred visits and Bot Analytics, free while in beta, for AI crawler visits. Its prompts are daily and checks are metered.
Semrush. The toolkit lists a Visibility Overview with an AI Visibility Score, Competitor Research, Prompt Research with topic-level volume, Brand Performance with share of voice and sentiment, daily Prompt Tracking and AI Search Site Audit. Its page lists reporting on AI visibility's return as "coming soon".
Keep the five signals separate when you read any of these reports:
- Mention. An answer names the brand.
- Citation. An answer links a page.
- Recommendation. An answer suggests the brand as a choice.
- Referral. A visit arrives from an answer. Ahrefs' free Web Analytics is the one product on this list that describes it directly.
- Conversion. The visit becomes a lead or sale.
Who does each product fit?
Rankscale fits teams that want a standalone product with a wide engine list and are comfortable managing credits. Limit: the credit rule makes monthly volume depend on how you set engines and frequency, so use its calculator before buying.
Ahrefs Brand Radar fits teams already using Ahrefs for SEO who want a few prompts alongside it. Limit: included checks are small, and tracking many prompts across several engines moves toward the add-on or Enterprise.
Semrush's toolkit fits teams already on Semrush who want sentiment and share-of-voice reports and a small daily prompt set. Limit: no free trial, 25 prompts on the base plan, and engine coverage per prompt that the pages do not state.
In our judgement, the real split is whether the AI reports sit inside an SEO suite you already pay for. If they do, the add-on is the lower-friction route. If they do not, Rankscale's standalone credit pool avoids buying a suite. These are editorial judgements, not measured outcomes.
How should you run a fair trial?
Only Rankscale lists a trial that covers this directly, so build the test around your own questions.
- Write 20 buyer questions and freeze the wording.
- Save a manual baseline first: answers from ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity with each link they displayed. The free check in Prime AI Visibility does this for five questions.
- Load the same questions into each product you can trial.
- Compare mention and citation per question with your baseline.
- Record the limit you hit first: credits, checks, prompts or engines.
- Read the unit you would pay for at your real question count, using the table above.
What can a different field teach about question sets?
Military Pet Club is a public site in another field, so it works as a neutral illustration. Its homepage describes a monthly savings club for pet food at commissaries, and its membership page asks visitors to sign up or sign in. A club like that has question sets built around savings and where to buy, such as "where do military families find pet food coupons", which differ from product-comparison questions. This is an illustrative public website, not a Prime AI client, endorsement or paid relationship, and it carries no veterinary guidance or AI-search outcome.
Where does Prime AI Visibility fit?
Prime AI Visibility is an AI Search Visibility Platform built around saved answers. The free check runs up to five buyer questions across ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity, keeps up to 15 answers with the links each displayed and needs no card. It is one check a month. Starter is $69 a month and adds Gemini and an AI Overview-style preview. It has no sentiment, crawler or traffic reporting and no managed service. It does not publish a prompt volume or an index of prompts, so it is not an alternative to Ahrefs' index or Semrush's Prompt Research.
As an AI visibility checker, the free check gives a baseline to test any of the three against. The features page describes Brand named, Website cited, recommendation and multi-model tracking as separate measures. Judge any AI visibility tracker by whether its saved answers hold up when you reread them. This is an affiliated recommendation.
For setup, use the AI visibility audit process, the AI visibility strategy guide and the buyer guide to choosing tools. For prices under $100 a month, see AI search analytics tools under $100, and for how the vendors source prompt data see what prompt volume means.
When is implementation the next job?
If a trial shows pages that answers skip or misstate, the work moves from reporting to content, sources and structure. Percepture, a company connected to Prime AI Visibility, covers AI visibility tools and the measurement that precedes a fix. Its generative engine optimization services cover the implementation. It is a services firm, not a tracker.
Frequently asked questions
