If you searched "profound vs writesonic for aeo/geo", here is the summary. Both platforms track how AI answers mention and cite a brand, both run agents that turn gaps into content work, and both measure AI crawler and referral traffic. The practical difference is how you buy them. Profound sells a free seven-day trial and custom-priced Enterprise packages. Writesonic publishes three self-serve plans from $79 a month (billed annually), bundles AI article writing and site audits with tracking, and keeps Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Copilot and Google AI Mode for Enterprise on its brand plans.

This comparison uses each company's pricing, product and comparison pages as they read on October 15, 2026, plus Y Combinator's company directory and news coverage of Profound's funding. It compares public specifications and is not a hands-on test. Prime AI Visibility publishes this site, competes with both, and appears later with its own limitations.

Profound vs Writesonic for AEO/GEO: the short answer

  • Choose Profound if you are an enterprise team or large agency that wants answer tracking, prompt-demand research, AI traffic analytics and an agent layer in one contract, with up to nine engines, and you can buy through a sales process.
  • Choose Writesonic if you want a published monthly price, SEO and AI search work in one tool, a fixed allowance of AI articles and site audits, and daily tracking on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews without talking to sales.
  • On engines: Profound's Enterprise plan lists up to nine. Writesonic's self-serve plans track three, and its Enterprise plan lists eight by name.
  • On free evaluation: both offer seven days. Profound's trial uses a recommended prompt set you cannot edit. Writesonic's trial needs no card.
  • On vendor comparisons: each company publishes a comparison page about the other. Several claims on both pages no longer match the rival's own pages, so check them before relying on them.

AEO or GEO: does the label change the choice?

No. Profound describes its category as answer engine optimization (AEO), and Writesonic calls itself a generative engine optimization (GEO) platform. Both terms describe the same work: earning mentions, citations and recommendations in answers from tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI features. The decision is about what each platform measures and what it helps you do next, not which acronym it uses.

Who the two companies are

Profound. Profound was founded in August 2024 and is headquartered in New York. It raised a $180 million Series D at a $1.8 billion valuation in September 2026, co-led by Sequoia Capital and Kleiner Perkins, which the New York Business Journal also reported. Its product line covers Answer Engine Insights, Prompt Volumes, Agent Analytics, Shopping, Agents and an orchestrating agent called AI Marketer, also known as Aim. Our review of Profound's AI visibility products covers each one.

Writesonic. Writesonic went through Y Combinator's Summer 2021 batch and began as an AI writing tool. Its YC profile now describes it as "the GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) platform", and its site lists an AI Visibility Tracker, an Action Center, AI Agent Analytics, AI Search Volume, an ads tracker, a shopping tracker, an AI Article Writer and SEO tools. Its documentation says it serves 13,000+ marketing teams; that is the company's own figure.

Plans, prices and engines on the same checks

The table uses the same check for both vendors in each row, from each pricing page on October 15, 2026.

Check Profound Writesonic
Entry price Quote $79/month
Free option 7-day trial 7-day trial
Entry engines 3 3
Top-tier engines Up to 9 8
Cadence Daily Daily
Sentiment Yes Growth+
Traffic data Yes Yes
Content Agents Articles, audits
History Enterprise Not listed

Notes: Writesonic's $79 is the Starter price billed annually; the page says annual billing saves 20%, and Writesonic's Profound comparison page says "from $99/mo". Its other self-serve plans are Basic at $199 and Growth at $399, billed annually. Both entry tiers track ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Profound's Enterprise list is ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, DeepSeek, Claude, Google AI Overviews and Exa Search. Writesonic's Enterprise list is ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Copilot, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews. Profound's pricing FAQ says trial users receive a recommended prompt set they cannot customize, and the trial has no history, exports or API. "Growth+" means Writesonic's Growth plan and above.

Writesonic's plan capacity needs one question. Starter lists "50 prompts, 50 answers tracked daily" on three engines, while Basic lists 100 prompts and 300 answers, which is one answer per engine per prompt. Ask Writesonic how Starter's 50 daily answers are spread across the three engines.

Methodology note: this is a comparison of public specifications, not a measurement of accuracy or results. Where a vendor's pages disagree with each other, we say so rather than choosing the more favourable figure.

What each platform measures

Profound. Answer Engine Insights tracks how engines mention, rank and describe a brand, with share of voice, citation sources, sentiment and competitor comparison. Profound says it captures responses "directly from the consumer experience, not API outputs". Agent Analytics tracks AI crawler visits and AI-referred traffic through integrations with Akamai, AWS, Cloudflare, Fastly, Google Analytics, Google Cloud Platform, Netlify, Vercel and WordPress.

Writesonic. The AI Visibility Tracker reports visibility, citations, sentiment and share of voice, filtered by competitor, market, language and intent. Writesonic also says it crawls the AI interface "like a real user. Not through APIs." AI Agent Analytics is server-side crawler and referral tracking, connected through Cloudflare, AWS CloudFront, WordPress, Vercel, Drupal, Fastly, Shopify or a custom log drain. Writesonic also tracks ads shown inside ChatGPT and Google AI answers.

In our judgement, interface capture is not a deciding factor between these two, because both claim it. The more useful question is whether each tool lets you open the full saved answer and the exact cited URLs for any prompt, on the plan you would actually buy.

The five AI visibility signals

Each signal moves on its own, so it helps to see which product covers which:

  1. Mention (the answer names the brand): both, through visibility and share of voice.
  2. Citation (the answer links your site or a source about you): both, through citation and source analysis.
  3. Recommendation (the answer suggests your brand over others): both report rank, sentiment or share of voice. Neither public page lists a metric that records an explicit recommendation, so read the answer text.
  4. Referral (someone clicks through): both, through crawler and AI-referral analytics.
  5. Conversion (the visit becomes a lead or sale): Profound's Agents can pull GA4 conversions and revenue; Writesonic lists a GA4 integration, and its AI Agent Analytics page has a section on measuring human traffic and conversions. Confirm what reaches your CRM.

Prompt data: what the volume numbers mean

Both vendors sell prompt-demand data, and both describe it with large numbers that vary across their own pages.

  • Profound. Its comparison article cites "2B+ real user prompts". Its Prompt Volumes page refers to "1.5 billion+ real AI conversations", to "hundreds of millions of prompts per month" licensed from double-opt-in consumer panels, and to statistical modelling that scales volumes "to reflect the full population".
  • Writesonic. Its tracker and documentation cite "2B+" or "2 Billion+" conversations, and its AI Search Volume feature is described as "predicted volume for every prompt". Its pricing page lists Google Keyword Planner, Google SERPs and Reddit as data sources.

In our judgement, both are modelled estimates built on panel or conversation data, not counts of how often a prompt was asked. Use either to rank which questions to track first, and ask each vendor for its panel source, update cadence and how it validates estimates.

Agents and content: where the products differ most

Profound. AI Marketer proposes opportunities and routes work to Agents, which Profound's pricing page lists on both plans along with Context Manager, a store of brand knowledge. Agent templates cover content refresh, FAQ generation, competitive research and net-new content, with a human approval step before anything publishes. Agents run on credits; the trial includes limited credits, and the pricing FAQ says a self-serve Agency Growth plan includes 400 credits per month per client workspace.

Writesonic. The Action Center ranks gaps across new content, page refreshes, external mentions on sites such as Reddit, YouTube and blogs, and technical fixes. Full access is Enterprise-only; Growth gets a trial of five off-page and five on-page actions a month. Every self-serve plan includes AI articles (15, 25 or 50 a month), site audits and limited agentic workflow runs (10, 50 or 100 trial runs). Our guide to AEO tools that integrate with content workflows covers Writesonic's WordPress read-and-write integration.

In our judgement, Writesonic suits teams that want a predictable monthly volume of drafts and audits bundled with tracking. Profound suits teams that want agents to plan and run multi-step work, and that will budget for credits.

What each vendor's comparison page says about the other

This is the original analysis in this comparison. Profound publishes "Profound vs. Writesonic" (dated June 10, 2026), and Writesonic publishes "Writesonic vs Profound". We checked claims each page makes about the rival against the rival's own pages on October 15, 2026.

Claim Made by Rival's page says
No Profound trial Writesonic 7-day trial
Profound $99 tier Writesonic Trial, Enterprise
Insights only Writesonic Agents listed
Docs cite 120M+ Profound Docs say 2B+
Email support Profound Matches

Notes, row by row:

  • No Profound trial. Writesonic's page says Profound has "No free trial on any tier". Profound's pricing page lists a free Trial with 50 prompts run daily for seven days.
  • Profound $99 tier. Writesonic's page lists "$99 Starter. $399 Growth" for Profound. Profound's pricing page lists Trial and custom Enterprise for brands; its FAQ mentions a self-serve Agency Growth plan.
  • Insights only. Writesonic's page says "Profound stops at insights". Profound's pricing page lists Agents, AI Marketer suggestions and Context Manager on both plans.
  • Docs cite 120M+. Profound's page says Writesonic's documentation "cites 120M+ AI conversations". Writesonic's documentation page now says "2 Billion+".
  • Email support. Profound's page says Writesonic offers email support on Starter and Basic and priority email on Growth. Writesonic's pricing table matches.

Most published comparisons of these two platforms come from a company with a stake in the outcome. Both vendor pages may have been accurate when written, and plans change quickly, so confirm current plan details on each pricing page and treat any vendor's comparison, including this one, as a list of questions to confirm in a demo.

A side-by-side trial plan

Both trials last seven days, so run them in the same week.

  1. Write your prompts first. List 30 to 50 questions real buyers ask, grouped by product and persona, and keep the exact text outside both tools.
  2. Note what each trial lets you load. Profound's trial uses a recommended prompt set, so compare where your list and its set overlap rather than expecting identical inputs.
  3. Fix the engines. Compare ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, which both entry tiers share.
  4. Save evidence by hand. Profound's trial has no exports. Screenshot five full answers with cited URLs in each tool on day two.
  5. Test one content task. Use Profound's agent credits and one Writesonic article or action on the same gap, then review both drafts against your claims and brand rules.
  6. Connect traffic if you can. Set up crawler analytics on a staging or low-risk property, and note how long each takes.
  7. Ask the same five questions on the last day. Enterprise or plan price for your prompt count, engines in your contract, history after the trial, exports and API, and who reviews agent output before it publishes.

The guide on how to choose an AI visibility tool explains each evaluation axis in more depth.

Who each platform fits

Profound is a likely fit for:

  • Enterprise brands and large agencies that want tracking, prompt research, AI traffic analytics and agents in one contract.
  • Teams that need Copilot, DeepSeek, Claude or Google AI Mode coverage.
  • Retailers that need ChatGPT Shopping visibility on Enterprise.

Writesonic is a likely fit for:

  • Growth teams that want a published monthly price and to start without sales.
  • Teams that want SEO tools, AI articles and site audits bundled with AI tracking.
  • Agencies pitching prospects, since its agency Starter plan includes 20 short pitch projects a month.

Weaker fit for either: teams that only need saved answer evidence for a small set of buyer questions and do not plan to use agents, articles or traffic analytics. For a wider shortlist, see our guide to AI visibility tools for B2B companies, or the AI visibility tools comparison of Profound, Peec AI and Otterly.AI.

Where Prime AI Visibility fits

Prime AI Visibility is an AI visibility tracker for teams that want to run a smaller set of saved buyer questions across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and an AI Overview-style preview, then read every saved answer with the brands named and the links shown. It reports Brand named, Website cited, Source links and Explicit recommendation, each defined on the metrics page.

The Prime AI Visibility features include an AI Search Predictor that finds questions worth pursuing and a Content Studio that drafts source-enriched pages as files, with nothing published without approval. Flash is free each month for five questions across ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity, with up to 15 answers and no card. Starter is $69 a month for all five, and the pricing page lists every plan.

Limitations: Prime AI Visibility does not report sentiment, rank, AI crawler visits, traffic or conversions, so referral and conversion data must come from your analytics. It checks monthly by default, with weekly, temporary daily and on-demand checks on paid plans, not continuous daily tracking at enterprise volume. It does not track Microsoft Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek or Google AI Mode, and it does not publish content.

When the next job is implementation

An AI visibility tool, whether Profound, Writesonic or another, shows where a brand stands and suggests fixes. Earning coverage on the publications, forums and review sites that answers cite is still work for people. As an AI Visibility Platform for in-house teams, Prime AI Visibility stops at measurement, recommendations and draft files.

If you want a partner to do that work, Percepture, founded in 2004 and Inc. 5000-recognized, offers generative engine optimization services within its wider digital marketing and PR services. Fit: a team that wants SEO, GEO, digital PR and content work aimed at the sources AI answers cite, done by people. Limitation: Percepture is a services firm, not a tracking platform, so it pairs with a tool rather than replacing one. Prime AI Visibility has a commercial relationship with Percepture.

Teams with a large content backlog can also look at Pyra's AI agents for marketing and sales, which include human-approved content operations agents. Pyra's AI visibility case study describes an anonymized digital-infrastructure company with more than 35 years in business and reports a 3,000% increase in AI and LLM visibility signals. That is Pyra's published client result, not a benchmark to expect.

Whichever you choose, an AI Search Visibility Platform or an AI Brand Visibility Tool is only useful if it keeps the same questions from one month to the next, so changes are comparable.

Frequently asked questions

Which is better, Profound or Writesonic, for AEO/GEO?

Neither is better for every team. Profound suits enterprise teams and large agencies that want tracking, prompt research, AI traffic analytics and agents in one custom contract with up to nine engines. Writesonic suits teams that want a published self-serve price from $79 a month billed annually, bundled AI articles and site audits, and daily tracking on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews.

How much do Profound and Writesonic cost?

Profound's pricing page lists a free seven-day trial and custom-priced Enterprise packages. Writesonic lists Starter at $79, Basic at $199 and Growth at $399 a month billed annually, with custom Enterprise pricing, and says annual billing saves 20%.

Which AI engines do Profound and Writesonic track?

Both entry tiers track ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Profound's Enterprise plan lists up to nine engines, including Perplexity, Claude, Copilot, DeepSeek, Google AI Mode and Exa Search. Writesonic's Enterprise plan lists eight, including Perplexity, Claude, Grok, Copilot and Google AI Mode.

Do Profound and Writesonic track AI crawler traffic?

Yes. Profound's Agent Analytics and Writesonic's AI Agent Analytics both track AI crawler visits and AI-referred visits through CDN, hosting and analytics integrations. Check which integrations match your stack before you sign.

Are the vendors' own comparison pages reliable?

Treat them as starting points. On October 15, 2026, Writesonic's page said Profound had no free trial, while Profound's pricing page listed one, and Profound's page cited a Writesonic documentation figure that Writesonic's documentation no longer shows.

Is AEO different from GEO?

In practice, no. Profound uses answer engine optimization (AEO) and Writesonic uses generative engine optimization (GEO) for the same work: earning mentions, citations and recommendations in AI answers.

Next steps

  1. Write your 30 to 50 buyer prompts and run both trials in the same week using the plan above.
  2. Build the question list with an AI visibility audit so both tools are judged on fixed inputs.
  3. Keep a separate baseline: run your free check and compare the saved answers with each vendor's results.

Start a baseline before you sign

Ask five buyer questions across ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity at no cost and without a card, with up to 15 saved answers. Starter adds Gemini and an AI Overview-style preview for $69 a month.
